curriculum
Held within a medical school, the FAMI Workshop provides participants with access to the best and brightest teachers and teaching tools the medical community has to offer.

Our curriculum focuses on the anatomical and clinical knowledge needed to train clients safely and effectively. Each day of the workshop deals with a different area of the body:

• Vertebral Column • Upper Extremity
• Lower Extremity • Pelvic Floor & Abdominal wall

Each day our faculty leads participants on intensive journeys from the lecture hall to the gross lab – journeys designed to demystify the body from the inside out. The daily curriculum includes:

• In-depth foundation lectures given by distinguished anatomists
• Hands-on experience with 3-D cadaver prosections in gross anatomy laboratory sessions
• Informative clinical perspective lectures given by leading physicians
• special sessions
foundation lectures
These sessions given by anatomy and faculty are held at the beginning of each day, and serve to orient the student to the particular musculoskeletal and nervous system anatomy of the day’s body region.
gross anatomy laboratory sessions
These sessions provide participants with the incredible opportunity to see, touch and learn from 3-D cadaveric prosections (regions of cadavers that have been meticulously dissected to demonstrate intricate details of anatomy). Participants are divided into small groups during these sessions, promoting an intimate environment for viewing the prosections and listening to discussions lead by anatomy faculty. At the end of the course, participants will also have a chance to test their new knowledge of anatomical structures with a fun, mock practical exam.
clinical perspective lectures
Lead by orthopedists, neurologists and sports-medicine physicians on our clinical faculty, these sessions shed light on many common injuries affecting the day’s body region: demystifying what happens to the body, why it happens, and how the injury should be treated.
special sessions
We also integrate sessions into our core curriculum that highlight timely topics or special skills. Examples include:

panel discussion on “injuries, movement and medicine”
When it comes to managing injuries, there are many important topics to discuss that simply cannot be found in a textbook. We designed this session to promote a forum for participants and specialists in the medical & movement worlds to discuss different methodologies of managing chronic pain and injuries, the benefits and challenges of promoting a more integrative approach, and ways to enhance doctor-trainer communication.

radiology sessions
X-rays, CT scans, MRI’s, bone scans…you’ve probably had a few, and surely so have our clients. This session was designed to give the fitness professional an overview of radiologic modalities – where they are, how they work and why they’re used. Participants also learn how to read images, identifying the normal from the not-so-normal.
