Where will the course be held?
The course will be held at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (MSSM) located in the Annenberg Building of the Mount Sinai Medical Center. The medical center campus stretches between 98th Street and 102nd Street, between Madison and Fifth Avenues on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Please enter the Medical Center through the large revolving glass doors at the Madison Avenue entrance at 100th Street, and walk up the stairs located on the left side of the lobby. A FAMI Workshop representative and/or posted signs will direct you from there. For maps and additional information, click here.

How can I get to MSSM via public transportation?
Take the Number 6 train (Green line) to 96th street. Walk two blocks west to Madison Avenue and four blocks north to the entrance of the medical center, located on the west side of the avenue at 100th Street.

How can I get to MSSM by car and where is the nearest parking garage?
The parking garage is located at 99th Street between Park and Madison Avenues. Metered parking around the Mount Sinai vicinity is also available. Please visit the following website for specific driving directions.

What hotels are located nearby?
We have compiled the following list of lodging suggestions to assist you in finding a place to stay, as well as arranged Room Blocks with two hotels to be able to offer FAMI participants discounted rates. Click here.

curriculum & course materials
Who will be teaching during the FAMI Workshop?
Lectures and presentations will be lead by various members of the FAMI Workshop faculty. Please see the Faculty section of our website for more detail.

What topics will be covered during the lectures?
Each day of the course will focus on a particular anatomical area (please see schedule provided). Each day will begin with a foundation lecture on musculoskeletal anatomy. Additional course activities will include: 1) Gross Anatomy laboratory sessions where participants will be able to view prosected specimens and radiographic images, and participate in interactive discussions about the structures detailed; and 2) lectures on common injuries given by neurologists, orthopedists, and sports medicine specialists.

Should I be concerned about my anatomy knowledge?
Although a strong foundation of musculoskeletal anatomy will be helpful, there is no need to be concerned about prior anatomy knowledge or experience. The foundation lectures held each morning will serve to either help refresh your knowledge or orient you to the particular area of musculoskeletal anatomy on the course schedule for that day. Nevertheless, with anatomy, repetition is the key to success, and so we always recommend reviewing your knowledge of essential musculoskeletal anatomy (i.e., muscle groups and actions, insertions, origins, bony landmarks, etc.).

What materials will be provided during the course?
We will supply you with a reference guide of supplemental materials to augment the information presented during the workshop; these materials will be distributed on the first day of the course. In addition, we will provide anatomy atlases and texts for you to reference in the Gross Anatomy laboratory.

What materials should I bring to the course?
Please bring pens and paper for note-taking. If you wish to take notes during the Gross Anatomy laboratory sessions, we recommend bringing a clipboard. It is also highly recommended to bring your own anatomy atlas or text with you to use as a reference throughout the course. Although you may use any reference material you wish, we recommend one of the following:

• Gray’s Atlas of Human Anatomy by Richard Drake, Wayne Vogl, Adam Mitchell, Richard Tibbitts, & Paul Richardson
• Atlas of Human Anatomy by Frank H, Netter, MD
• Illustrated Essentials of Musculoskeletal Anatomy by Kay W. Sieg, PhD and Sandra P. Adams, PhD

Will there be a place for me store my belongings during the course?
Due to construction in the medical center this year, we unfortunately may not be able to accommodate storage of your personal belongings during the course. We ask that you please plan accordingly and travel lightly; we cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen items. If you are traveling from out-of-town and need to bring your luggage with you, we will do our best to accommodate you.
gross anatomy labs
Do I need any special clothing attire?
We recommend wearing or bringing comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes with you. In addition, we will provide latex and non-latex gloves. Please keep in mind that the temperature in the lab is on the cooler side.

What can I bring into the Gross Anatomy Lab?
You may bring note-taking material and your own reference materials into the labs if you wish. Please do not bring coats, back-packs, or food into the laboratory.

Can I take pictures?
Due to the sensitive nature of the reference material in the gross anatomy laboratory, pictures are not allowed.

What is a prosection?
A prosection is a region of a cadaver that has been previously meticulously dissected to demonstrate intricate details of anatomy.

Will I be participating in cadaver dissection?
There will be no dissection of cadavers occurring during the workshop. Rather, instructors will use prosections for teaching purposes.
scholarship & CECs
Do you offer any scholarship opportunities?
We offer a full-tuition, need-based scholarship for a first-time FAMI Student. Made possible by a generous gift from an alum who was inspired by the FAMI experience, this scholarship  is designated for a movement professional in need of financial assistance who is just beginning his/her career, including an individual who is transitioning from another field of work. View application and eligibility materials.

How can I get CECs for the FAMI Workshop?

Participants of the FAMI Workshop are eligible to earn CECs from the American Council on Exercise (2.2), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (1.9), the Pilates Method Alliance (26), STOTT PILATES® (0.2), and Kane School (26). At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion containing all pertinent information needed to receive these CEC credits. If you wish to receive CECs from another accrediting organization, you may be able to submit a petition. Please contact your respective CEC provider for specific petition requirements, and we will be happy to provide any information you should need.
