new instructor spotlight!

Meet Mariann Doherty Conlon! Joining the kinected crew as a resident on Mondays, 11am-4pm, we’re thrilled to have her on board. Learn a little more about her and try a session today!

Q: Fave muscle?

A: Orbicularis oculus, the two muscles around each eye which are responsible for closing the eyelids. These muscles allow me to close my eyes and sleep! Getting a good night sleep is vital for my wellbeing. During sleep my body restores, regenerates and revitalizes at the cellular and systemic level. Quality sleep supports a healthy, stress free and mindful life. These Oculus muscles allow me to close my eyes, to get proper sleep, to blink and keep my eyes moist and most importantly, to wink at my adorable dog, Charlie. He winks back!!

Q: Preferred prop?

A: In my own Pilates practice, my preferred prop is the little pillow used to raise my head. I’m genetically predisposed to kyphosis and this little pillow allows me to lie supine while maintaining proper spinal alignment. The pillow also reminds me that I am perfectly imperfect; that my Pilates practice requires me to meet my body where it is each day and that I can use many props to help maintain proper form and comfort ability.

Q: Fun fact about you?

A: Although I am tone deaf and can’t sing to save my life, I love to sing at the top of my lungs while skiing down a snowy mountain! A ski slope is my happy place!

Mariann grew up in New York as a competitive swimmer. Later she enjoyed decades of running competitively and leisurely. She is an avid skier, hiker and biker who enjoys pushing herself athletically. Mariann discovered classical Pilates 12 years ago and enjoyed the core strength and muscle lengthening a regular practice provided. Recently, a chronic shoulder condition and an acute Achilles injury landed her in a surgeon’s office. Mariann elected to decline a surgical fix but instead embarked on a journey of Functional Physical Therapy, Therapeutic Pilates and Mindful living. During that journey of healing, Mariann became convinced that her passion for sharing wellness, mindfulness and healing could best be shared with others by teaching the Kelly Kane Therapeutic Pilates Method.

If you are an injured athlete looking to get back to your passion, an aging athlete desiring to stay healthy or you simply enjoy movement and want to fine tune your body mechanics, core health and overall wellness you will benefit from working with Mariann.
