Elliot Fishbein, PT, OCS, CFMT, FAAOMPT, brings more than 14 years of extensive experience and training at some of the top rehabilitation facilities in the country to Kinected. Well-known for his approach based in Functional Manual TherapyTM, which works to free restrictions in your joints and muscles to allow more freedom of movement, he aims to help you strengthen your body in the new, fuller motion and re-train it to avoid further injury. He treats each patient as an individual, addressing the whole body to eliminate weak links that may lead to pain and injury. With a diverse educational background and a wealth of hands-on experience, Elliot enjoys helping others by customizing specific treatment plans to meet each patient’s individual needs. He is expertly trained in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of injuries and many chronic conditions in order to get your body functioning most efficiently and at its best.
Elliot’s past experience is rooted in both orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation gained working at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and as the clinical specialist in the outpatient spine clinic at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He has also completed certification training in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, CA, and his fellowship training at Johnson and Johnson Physical Therapy in Steamboat Springs, Co.
In addition to his clinical experience and Functional Manual TherapyTM training, in which he is only one of 17 therapists in the country to have completed the one-year fellowship training in this area, Elliot is a board certified specialist in Orthopedics and a certified Vestibular (dizziness) therapist with the American Physical Therapy Association. He has also completed coursework in craniosacral therapy, and currently teaches both as an associate instructor with the Institute of Physical Art and as Core Faculty in the New York University Department of Physical Therapy. When not treating patients, Elliot can be found playing with his daughters, riding his bike, or playing tennis & basketball.
Katherine Tan PT, MS, OCS, CCTT, was originally drawn to physical therapy as a teenager when she sustained an injury as a competitive swimmer. This early experience with rehabilitation convinced her of the importance of an integrative approach to patient care. For over 14 years, Katherine has been practicing physical therapy in the areas of orthopedics and manual therapy. She is a certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. In 2008, she became a Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT). By earning this advanced specialty certification, Katherine joined the small, elite group of physical therapists who have been recognized by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain for their dedication to the treatment of neck, jaw, and head pain. Katherine has taken all of the coursework offered by the Institute of Physical Art and is working towards their certification as a functional manual therapist.
Katherine completed her BS in biology in 1997, and began her physical therapy training soon afterwards. In 1999, she graduated with a Master of Science in physical therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of the nation’s top physical therapy programs. Since settling in New York, she has completed extensive continuing education coursework in areas including myofascial release, visceral mobilization, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, cervicogenic headache, and pelvic pain.
Jinny McGivern, PT, DPT, CFMT is thrilled to join the team at Kinected! Since receiving her Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree from Hunter College in 2014, Jinny has dedicated herself to extensive study in the area of Functional Manual Therapy® and recently completed a two-year orthopedic residency program in Functional Manual Therapy® through the Institute of Physical Art (IPA). In August 2016, she achieved the level of Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT) through the IPA becoming one of only 300 people nationally to have reached this level of training.
As a former dancer with a B.F.A in Dance Performance, Jinny brings a lifelong interest and diverse background in movement to the practice of physical therapy. In addition to her dance background and experience, Jinny has completed a 500 Hour Yoga Certification through YogaWorks and taught classes through The Ailey Extension. Jinny also treats backstage as a physical therapist with various Broadway shows, and writes research review articles for the online education platform, The Brookbush Institute.
The Functional Manual Therapy® approach resonates strongly with Jinny because of its emphasis on treatment of the entire individual, rather than just an injured body part. Jinny's goal as a physical therapist is to help her clients achieve their fullest function as quickly as possible, whether you're somebody who just wants to be able to get out of bed without pain, or somebody who wants to return to high level dancing or sport.

Prescriptions and Direct Access
In New York state, patients are able to be evaluated and treated by a licensed physical therapist without a physician’s referral, called Direct Access. Some insurance plans, however, may still require a consult with a physician first, in order to be reimbursed for services. It is best to check with your insurance provider to determine if it requires a prescription from your primary physician in order to be eligible for full coverage. Direct Access treatment can be rendered by a licensed physical therapist for 10 visits or 30 days, which ever comes first; after one of these requirements has been reached, a physician’s referral is necessary to continue treatment.
